How Common Are Car Accidents in the United States?

Very. But if you've been in an accident how do you know if you need to hire a personal injury lawyer?

Just how common are car accidents in the United States?

If you’ve been in a car accident, you’re not alone! Automobile crashes remain a very common occurrence in the United States.  While car wrecks remain all too common in the United States in 2018, the trend is likely to continue through 2019 and 2020.

Every year, there are approximately 6,300,000 car accidents in the United States, which result in approximately 1,700,000 injuries and 36,000 deaths.  The accident statistics have been relatively consistent since 2006 and are likely to be similar in 2019 (Summary of Motor Vehicle Crashes — CrashStats — NHTSA).

While it is relatively easy to find statistics on car accident death rates each year by state in the United States (and we have also consolidated all of that data for you in the table below), it can be difficult to find out just how many car accidents occur each year in each state and how many of those car accidents result in injuries or death.  So if you're wondering how frequent vehicle accidents are by state and how likely residents are to be involved in an accident each year, we have consolidated and provided all of those statistics for you below.
